New flights to tropics, Europe and Southwest points sales: here is how to take advantage

Dominican airline Arajet is launching its first flight to the United States on April 11 and, to promote the new routes to Miami from Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, is offering a promotional fare of 30% off. Flights can already be booked on the Arajet website and range from $117.99 mid-week to $210.94 on the weekends each way; to take advantage of the 30% discount, passengers can add the “HOLAMIAMI” promo code when entering payment details.

For those looking to fly far, United Airlines  (UAL)  is offering a discount rate for a flashy new route between Newark Liberty Airport and Mongolian capital of Ulaanbataaar that it announced last October.

The second-city flight goes through Tokyo’s Narita Airport and can be purchased for a steal price of $326 in economy and $753 in business class each way if booking this month for service that begins in May 2025 and runs seasonally until October.

For those with Europe on the mind, Icelandic low-cost carrier Play is holding a flash sale in which one can book a one-way ticket to Reykjavik from Eastern U.S. cities like New York, Boston and Washington, D.C. for $99 as well as flights to European capitals like Paris, London, Amsterdam and Dublin for $129.

Travel needs to be booked by EOD of January 26 for travel between February 3 and April 15 or April 29 to May 26, 2025.

“Springtime is a wonderful time in Europe when we take to the streets and enjoy the rising temperatures and blooming greenery,” the promotion reads. “It’s also offseason for tourism and as such, the perfect time to travel without queues and big crowds.”

Need some extra points for that dream vacation? There is a sale for that too

And for those who are very close to saving the points they need to book a dream holiday but need a little extra, Southwest Airlines  (LUV)  is holdings a points sale in which one can purchase missing points at discounts ranging from 40% to 50% (the exact rate will depend on one’s loyalty status with the airline.)

To do so, log into your Southwest account (or create one) and purchase what will be capped at 100,000 points per day. Without any promotion, the fare is usually 3 cents per point while 3,000 points will get you $50 to put toward a flight.

Unlike many of the flash sales that airlines periodically hold, this is a long-running promotion that will last until midnight of Feb. 23.

“Turn your points into plans,” Southwest writes of the promotion that it posted on its website. “Reveal savings of 40 percent, 45 percent, or 50 percent off Rapid Rewards points and make this year your best travel yet.”
